A favicon is the small icon in the browser tab next to your page title. This free favicon generator makes every file you need from one image. You get a multi-size favicon.ico, PNG icons for phones and a web manifest. It also gives you the HTML code to paste into your site.

      How to create a favicon

      1. Add your logoUse a square PNG of at least 512 × 512 pixels for the sharpest result.
      2. Adjust the lookAdd padding, a background colour or rounded corners.
      3. Check the previewSee your icon at 16, 32, 48 and 180 pixels, plus inside a browser tab.
      4. Download and installGet all files in one ZIP. Copy the HTML code into your site’s head section.

      Tips for a clear favicon

      • Keep it simple. A single letter or symbol works better than a full logo with text.
      • Use strong colours. Thin lines vanish at 16 pixels.
      • Check the 16 px preview. If you cannot recognise it there, simplify the design.
      • Add a background colour if your logo is dark and many visitors use dark mode.

How to add the favicon to your website

Upload all the files to the main folder of your website, next to your home page. Then paste the HTML code from the tool inside the <head> section of your pages.

On WordPress it is even easier. Go to Appearance → Customize → Site Identity and upload the 512 × 512 PNG as the Site Icon. WordPress then makes the other sizes for you.

Not seeing the new icon? Browsers cache favicons for a long time. Open your site in a private window, or clear the browser cache to check.

      Frequently asked questions

How do I make a favicon from a PNG?

Drop your PNG into the box above. The tool makes the ICO file and all PNG sizes. Download the ZIP.

What size should a favicon be?

Start with a square image of at least 512 × 512 pixels. The tool scales it down to 16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 pixels.

      Do I still need favicon.ico?

Yes, it is still a good idea. Some browsers and tools look for it at the root of your site by default.

Can I use a JPG logo?

Yes. JPG has no transparency, so choose a background colour that matches your logo.

      Is my logo uploaded?

No. Every file is made inside your browser.

      Final thoughts

A favicon is small, but it matters. It helps people find your tab among many others. It shows up on phone home screens and in bookmarks. Search results on mobile can also show your site icon. This favicon generator builds the complete set from one image, so you do not have to resize anything by hand.

Start with a square, simple logo of at least 512 pixels. Check the 16 pixel preview to make sure it is still clear. Then download the ZIP, upload the files and paste the HTML code. WordPress users can simply upload the 512 pixel PNG as the site icon. Your logo never leaves your device while you work.
