Online forms often say “photo must be under 100 KB” or “signature under 20 KB”. This free image compressor hits that limit for you. Choose a target size, add your photos and download. You can compress an image to 100KB, 50KB, 20KB or any custom size.
How to compress image to 100KB, 50KB or 20KB
- Choose the target sizePick 20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB. Use Custom for any other number.
- Add your photosDrop one or many images. iPhone HEIC photos work too.
- Let it find the best fitThe tool tries many quality levels. It keeps the sharpest one that stays under your limit.
- DownloadEach file shows a green tick when it fits. Grab one file or a ZIP of all.
How does it reach an exact size?
A normal compressor uses one fixed quality setting. You then guess and try again. This tool works the other way round. It starts with your target size. Then it tests up to eight quality levels, one after another, until it finds the highest one that fits.
Sometimes even low quality is still too big. A huge phone photo cannot fit in 20 KB at full size. In that case the tool makes the picture a little smaller in pixels. It repeats this until the photo fits with a clean look. Small pixel sizes look far better than heavy blur.
Our test: three real photos, three limits
One big photo, three limits
We ran a 12-megapixel test image through the tool. It was 4000 × 3000 pixels and 2.77 MB, with a sky, hills and lots of fine detail. We asked for JPG output at three sizes.
Every result fit under its limit. Notice that quality stayed near 60% each time. Instead of blurring the photo, the tool made it smaller in pixels. A 20 KB photo at 569 × 427 still looks clean on a form. The same photo forced into 20 KB at full size would look like a smeared mess.
Common size limits
| Where you upload | Usual limit | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Job and exam application photo | 20–100 KB | Crop to head and shoulders first |
| Signature scan | 10–50 KB | Crop tightly around the signature |
| Visa or ID form photo | 50–240 KB | Check the exact pixel size too |
| Email attachment | Under 1–2 MB | Use 500 KB or 1 MB |
| Website image | 100–200 KB | WebP gives a sharper result |
Always read the form rules. Some forms also ask for exact pixels, like 600 × 600. Use our Image Resizer first, then compress here.
JPG or WebP: which output should you pick?
Pick JPG for forms. Almost every upload page accepts it. Pick WebP for websites. At the same file size, WebP usually looks sharper. Some government and job sites still reject WebP, so JPG is the safe choice.
Tips for the best result
- Crop away empty space before you compress. Fewer pixels means more quality per KB.
- Use good light for signatures and documents. Clean white paper compresses well.
- Do not compress the same file again and again. Start from the original each time.
- If text looks blurry, choose a slightly bigger target size.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress an image to 100KB?
Choose 100 KB in the Target size box. Add your photo. Download it when the green tick appears.
Can I reduce image size in KB without losing quality?
A little quality is always lost when a photo shrinks a lot. This tool keeps the loss as small as possible. It picks the highest quality that fits your limit.
How do I compress a photo to 20KB?
Select 20 KB. For big phone photos, the tool also lowers the pixel size so the result stays clear.
Will my photo be uploaded?
No. All the work happens in your browser. This matters for ID photos and signatures.
Can I compress many photos at once?
Yes. Drop them all in. Each one is compressed to the same target size. Then download them as a ZIP.
Does it work with PNG and HEIC?
Yes. It reads JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC photos. The output is JPG or WebP.

Final thoughts
Size limits on online forms can be frustrating. You pick a photo, then the form rejects it again and again. This image compressor ends the guessing. You choose the exact limit, such as 100 KB, 50 KB or 20 KB. The tool then finds the sharpest version that fits. Our test showed that even a very small 20 KB limit can still give a clear photo when the pixel size is reduced a little.
For the best results, crop away empty space first. Use JPG for forms and WebP for websites. Always start from your original photo. Your ID photos and signatures never leave your device, so you can use this tool with confidence.
