      Our test: JPG or PNG for PDF pages?

      The answer depends on the page

      We converted two kinds of A4 pages at 150 DPI. One page held a large photo. The other held only lines of plain text.

      For the photo page, JPG was about nine times smaller. For the text page, PNG was slightly smaller and its letters stayed perfectly sharp. So pick JPG for pages with photos. Pick PNG for pages that are mostly text, tables or drawings.
